Our Approach to Sustainability

At Strandhotel Klinten , we are aware that our day-to-day operations have an impact on the world around us. That is why we want to take responsibility for our shared future by actively integrating sustainable thinking into our work. Sustainability is a core value for us and a natural part of the way we run our hotel and conference business.

We are committed to social, environmental, and economic sustainability, which reflects our understanding that certain aspects of our operations have a greater impact on the climate and resource use, and that we therefore have a special responsibility to make conscious and responsible choices.

The purpose of our sustainability policy is to serve as a common framework for our sustainability efforts, including educating, informing, and promoting sustainability among employees, guests, and partners. The policy provides the framework for specific initiatives, continuous improvements, and priorities for the period 2025–2026 and serves as a dynamic document that is regularly evaluated and adjusted. Our work is guided by international principles and recognized standards, including the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO’s values, and Green Key, which inspire our efforts and help ensure that our work remains relevant, ambitious, and rooted in a broader societal context.

The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a common global framework for sustainable development. At Strandhotel Klinten , we aim to contribute to addressing global challenges by actively prioritizing and structuring our sustainability efforts in our day-to-day operations.

We are working toward the Sustainable Development Goals by translating global ambitions into concrete, local actions in the areas where we, as a hotel and conference company, have the greatest opportunity to make a difference. This applies in particular to responsible resource use, well-being and decent working conditions, climate action, and collaboration and partnerships, which will be detailed on an ongoing basis in this policy.

The Sustainable Development Goals are thus a natural part of our sustainability decisions and support our ongoing development.

Local Roots and World Heritage

Strandhotel Klinten is located at Stevns Klint, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The area boasts a unique natural and cultural history, and as part of the local network “World Heritage Stevns,” we work toward sustainability in accordance with UNESCO’s principles. Our work with the World Heritage Site focuses particularly on responsible communication with visitors, respect for nature through responsible tourism, and local engagement and collaboration under the auspices of Verdensarv Stevns.

Green Key Certification

For many years, Klinten has focused on thinking and acting in an environmentally friendly way, which has resulted in the international Green Key environmental certification. Green Key is the international eco-label for tourism and is awarded only to businesses that meet a wide range of specific and documented environmental requirements.

As a Green Key-certified business, we meet both established criteria and requirements for ongoing environmental improvements. The certification is ensured through a comprehensive approval process and regular inspections, which support our continuous development.

Our Goals for 2025–2026

Responsible Use of Resources

At Strandhotel Klinten , we are committed to reducing our environmental impact through responsible use of resources and continuous improvements in our daily operations. We recognize that our hotel and conference operations can have a significant impact on the environment and climate, and we therefore take active responsibility for minimizing this impact wherever possible.

Specifically, our environmental efforts in 2025–2026 will focus particularly on improving the following areas:

• reduce paper consumption by digitizing internal workflows
• Minimize the volume of residual waste by further improving waste sorting practices in all departments, including providing clearer information and offering additional training to employees on proper waste sorting
• increase the use of local and seasonal ingredients
• a gradual increase in organic products with the aim of obtaining the Bronze Organic Dining Label
• ongoing adaptation to the green transition through new and more sustainable solutions

Social Sustainability

Social sustainability is a central part of Strandhotel Klint’s core values and daily practices. We strive to create an environment where people thrive, feel included, and are treated with respect—whether as employees, guests, or business partners.

Our efforts will focus in particular on:

• further enhance well-being by strengthening ongoing dialogue and follow-up
• create equal opportunities through clear onboarding, setting expectations, and defining roles
• maintain and develop an inclusive culture in which diversity is seen as a strength

 

Economic Sustainability

A healthy and responsible financial foundation is essential for Strandhotel Klint to operate a stable business and develop the hotel over the long term. We strive for financial sustainability through thoughtful prioritization, where responsible use of resources and long-term decisions support both operational reliability and sustainable development.

Through this, we aim to achieve the following goals to strengthen our financial sustainability:

• effective resource and consumption management, where reducing waste contributes to both economic and environmental responsibility
• long-term investments that prioritize quality, durability, and solutions with lower operating costs over time
